Meet Dr. Collis

Dr. Philip N. Collis is a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in Sports Medicine. He focuses on both operative and non-operative treatment modalities for acute injuries, fracture care, general orthopedic and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. He has special interest in arthroscopic procedures of the knee and shoulder, including ligament tears (ACL, MCL, PCL, LCL), meniscus tears, cartilage injuries, patellar instability, rotator cuff tears, biceps tears, shoulder labrum tears and instability. He also has specific training in anterior hip replacement surgery and robotic total knee replacement surgery.

He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with an undergraduate degree in Chemistry. He went on to complete his medical training at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He also completed his orthopedic surgical residency at the University of Louisville. Dr. Collis elected to pursue additional specialty training in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine at the University of Miami in Florida, where he served as team physician for the Miami Hurricanes football, basketball, baseball, and volleyball teams. He also was a team physician for the Miami Marlins MLB team.

Dr. Collis comes to us from the University of Kentucky where he was on faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedics. He served as the head team physician for the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers men’s basketball team, women’s volleyball team, and baseball team. Over the course of his training, he has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles as well as multiple chapters in sports medicine textbooks. He remains an active member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).

Dr. Collis is a native of Columbus, Ohio where he played competitive soccer and basketball throughout high school. He continues an active lifestyle and enjoys all recreational sports. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, including his six nephews, traveling, golfing, and playing fetch with his dog Achilles.
