Athlete of the Week: Macy McMinn, St. Cecilia Academy Soccer
Macy McMinn, a standout junior at St. Cecilia Academy, continues to dominate the soccer field as a versatile defender. Playing both center and outside wing when needed, McMinn’s leadership in the backline was crucial this week, with two goal-line clearances and an impressive 80% pass completion rate. She also won 75% of her tackles, creating key turnovers that led to her team’s success.
With 11 years of experience, McMinn is eyeing a future in collegiate soccer, and her coach has praised her hustle and grit, saying her efforts on the field never go unnoticed.
Soccer is a demanding sport that places a lot of strain on the knees, and one of the most common injuries is an ACL tear. Female soccer players are particularly prone to ACL injuries, with research showing they are two to eight times more likely to suffer this injury compared to males. ACL injuries can be career-changing if not properly treated.
